Ask five different people about Faustino Asprilla and you’ll likely get five different and equally outrageous stories. The Colombian has never been far from the headlines, with his endeavours both on and off the pitch modelling a unique footballer that you wouldn’t dream of encountering in the modern game.
Born in Tulua, Colombia, Tino ‘The Octopus’, a 5’9” forward with a deadly eye for goal and an abundance of skill, was soon on the radar of Europe’s top clubs after an impressive spell with Atletico Nacional.
Asprilla moved to Parma in 1992 and was a prominent feature of the club’s golden era under Nevio Scala, operating alongside the likes of Thomas Brolin and Gianfranco Zola, among others.
