footballer Paul Stewart told yesterday how he’s helped Scottish survivors of historic sexual abuse in sports.The 55-year-old who played for Liverpool and Spurs has also advised the Scottish FA on safeguarding children in football here.He was speaking after a report found that sports’ coaches and instructors in England and Wales exploited children’s vulnerabilities in order to groom and abuse them.It also found examples of widespread grooming when survivors described perpetrators “trying to normalise certain behaviours through overly physical contact, sexualised comments or being shown pornographic material”.The hard-hitting research mirrored experiences of victims of the Celtic Boys Club abuse scandal.
