Scientists claim they have unearthed the world's oldest DNA in the tooth of a 800,000-year-old cannibal. Genetic information from a fossil dating back nearly a millennium ago has been retrieved by a team at the University of Copenhagen.
They said it goes back further in time than previously thought. The tooth belongs to the hominin species, Homo Antecessor, reports EurekAlert.
Frido Welker, a research fellow, said: "Ancient protein analysis provides evidence for a close relationship between Homo antecessor , us (Homo sapiens), Neanderthals, and Denisovans. "Our results support the idea that Homo antecessor was a sister group to the group containing Homo sapiens, Neanderthals, and Denisovans." The study was published on April 1, and
