Martin Lewis told viewers that from August 1, the BBC TV licence fee will only be free to anyone over the age of 75 who is receiving Pension Credit.

The founder of MoneySavingExpert.com estimates there are over 1.5 million eligible households across the UK that haven’t claimed the benefits top-up because they don't realise they can.

The changes to the BBC TV licence fee means that from August 1, people over 75 will have to pay the annual fee of £157.50 - unless they put in a claim now.

Martin told viewers: “If you’re on a low income, as a pensioner, you’ll want to check it out.” He then advised anyone who thinks they may be eligible to call the Pension Credit helpline on 0800 99 1234.
