Mohamed Salah and his Egypt colleagues were once again left heartbroken at the hands of Senegal as Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty to send his country to the 2022 World Cup.
Egypt, who went into Tuesday's second leg a goal to the good thanks to a Saliou Ciss own goal in the first leg, lost that advantage after Hamdi Fathi put through his own net in the decider.
Despite Senegal dominating the encounter, the game went through extra-time and into a penalty shoot-out in which home supporters shined bright green laser pointers into the eyes of the Egypt players - with Salah one of three to miss in a 3-1 defeat.
The heartbreaking loss which, means Mane and his colleagues including Chelsea's Edouard Mendy will be at the World Cup in Qatar, came after his Liverpool team-mate Salah had offered a rallying call.
