The Royal Navy is developing the world's largest underwater drone to be piloted remotely which may see the end of the manned submarine.

The 100ft Brit vessel – called XLUUV which is short for Extra Large Unmanned Underwater Vehicle – is designed to be undetectable in enemy waters.

It is currently being tested by Brit scientists and could see the end of submarines, which are noisier and easier for enemy vehicles to locate using sonar.

Nuclear powered submarines cost taxpayers £1.65 billion while developers are confident that at the same price 50 XLUUVs could be produced.
