Richard’s wife of 40 years, actress Patricia Crowder Herd, revealed the news of her husband’s death to The Hollywood Reporter.
Character actor Richard, originally from Boston, played a range of roles on stage and screen throughout his 50-year career. Richard appeared 11 times over three Seinfeld seasons.
His portrayal of the iconic supervisor Mr Wilhelm to George Costanza (Jason Alexander) was his most recognisable performance.
