'Racist' Grade II-listed pub sign from 1700s to be removed after thousands sign petition

The pub has a distinctive "gallows" sign that features the smiling head of a young boy.The face is in the 'blackamoor' style that was common across European art at the time, with black skin, round eyes and a red grinning mouth.
The style is now widely considered racist and demeaning toward black people.A petition demanding the sign's removal was launched on Friday and has now gained more than 30,000 signatures.Creator Rebecca Jordan says the "disgusting" image should have been taken down years ago."It is harmful and instils a dangerously.
