Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

During Wednesday night's conclusion of ITV drama Quiz, viewers watched as the trial got underway after Charles Ingram (Matthew Macfadyen) allegedly cheated his way to £1million on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

As the Ingrams tried to get on with their daily lives during the trial, they were left devastated to discover that their neighbours had turned on them – and their pets.

The ITV drama showed a gruesome trail of blood leading to the kitchen, before viewers saw Charles cradling their dying dog. He told his wife and daughter: "I think somebody caught him at the front of the house with a pellet gun or air rifle."
