Epsom Derby for just the third time in her 70-year reign in order to prepare and 'pace herself' for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee festivities.Reports suggest, via sources close to the Queen, it is 'increasingly unlikely' she will not make the trip to Epsom amid the four-day celebrations next weekend to mark 70 years since she took to the throne.

The Princess Royal will reportedly represent the family on her behalf. One royal source told the Sunday Times that Her Majesty made the decision to help 'pace herself’ as she rests at Balmoral in Scotland amid her 'episodic mobility concerns'.

The only two times the 96-year-old has not attended Epsom were in 1956, while she was visiting Sweden on official duties and in 1984 when she marked the 40th anniversary of the D-Day landings in France.Buckingham Palace declined to comment, saying the Queen's attendance at events would not be confirmed until closer to the time. The news comes as the Queen is set to make two appearances on the balcony at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, the first day of her Jubilee celebrations.

The appearances will take place during her official Birthday Parade, the start of the four-day bank holiday weekend with crowds set to watch as the flag is trooped by the 1st Battalion Irish Guards as well as more than 1,500 officers and soldiers from the Household Division.“The Queen is determined to take part in the Jubilee celebrations,” a royal source said. “Trooping was brought forward by one week to be part of the Jubilee this year and the Queen very much wants to be part of it.”At Epsom, the trio of horses entered by the Queen - who reportedly owns over 100 racehorses - for the Derby had previously been withdrawn.
