The Queen and Prince Philip arrived at Balmoral the day before a lockdown was imposed in Aberdeen city centre. Bars, cafes and restaurants have been ordered to close by 5pm on Wednesday by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon following an outbreak of 54 cases in the city.
The 94-year-old monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh, who is 99, arrived at Aberdeen International Airport on Tuesday for their annual summer break at the royal pile in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire.
The lockdown had been rolled out again as a surge in cases has heightens fears the Scottish Government is "dealing with a significant outbreak in Aberdeen that may include some community transmission", Ms Sturgeon said.
