Queen and Prince Philip have sent a message of condolence to the President of the Republic of Lebanon following a blast in Beirut that killing at least 100 people.Queen Elizabeth II said she and the Duke of Edinburgh have been left “deeply saddened” by the explosion, which shook the city on Tuesday afternoon.Thousands were injured in the blast, and at least 100 killed, in what has been dubbed a “mini Hiroshima” by people around the globe.
The blast was initially believed to have occurred in a building near the Port of Beirut, said to be holding fireworks, but the president of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, yesterday said 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was being kept at the warehouse.
