Vladimir Putin has lost another two colonels in his failing war effort in Ukraine, it has been reported. The death toll now among Russia's highest military ranks now stands at 48 as the dictator's troops took another blow.

Lieutenant colonel Alexander Dosyagayev, 34, was a commander of an airborne assault battalion of the 104th paratrooper regiment. His regiment was reportedly in Bucha, the scene of a string of alleged war crimes including rape and torture that Putin's men have been accused of committing.

Russian media outlet Mediazona also confirmed the death of another commander killed earlier in the war. Colonel Vladimir Ivanov, who has been branded a 'propagandist' by the Ukrainian media after he served in Russia's department of Information and Mass Communication, reportedly died in March.

Dosyagayev and Ivanov are thought to have been the 47th and 48th colonels known to have died fighting for Russia in Ukraine since the war began in February.
