A paedophile who raped a vulnerable girl he groomed at a church group has been jailed for 18 years. Prolific sex offender Charles Fanning, 74, was described by a judge as a "dangerous sexual predator" after being found guilty of raping a child under 13 and sexually touching a child under 13.

Cardiff Crown Court heard he carried out a campaign of sex attacks on a young teenager after meeting her at a church group. At his sentencing hearing, a judge heard Fanning has previous convictions for sexually assaulting girls and has repeatedly breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order against him.

Prosecutor Clare Wilks told the court Fanning would befriend families with vulnerable children, who he would shower with gifts.
