Simone Simmons, a close friend of Diana’s, used to speak to the late princess for up to 14 hours on the phone when she was alive.
In the lead up to her death in a Paris car crash aged just 36, Diana ranted at her in a string of recorded messages about her growing paranoia.
Simone, 59, who wrote the book Diana: The Last Word, has now released never-before-tapes of answering machine messages left to her by Diana to help her fans be “soothed by the sound of it in these difficult times of coronavirus and Brexit and the turmoil going on in the royal family”.
According to Simone, Diana expressed her desire to escape the UK and fame in Britain and move to America – “just like Meghan Markle has done”.
