Prince Andrew's team was initially happy with his disastrous Newsnight interview, presenter Emily Maitlis has revealed. The BBC interviewer has said that the palace were shocked, not by the interview but by the public reaction afterwards.
The interview, widely described as a “car crash”, saw Andrew speak at length about his association with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
He declined to say he regretted the friendship, with his memorable answers including details of his visit to Pizza Express, saying he was medically unable to sweat and his description of a “straightforward shooting party”.
