Police are hunting a gunman after an officer was killed and another left in a serious condition following a routine traffic stop in New Zealand.
A member of the public was also injured after being struck by a vehicle as it sped from the scene in Massey, West Auckland, on Friday.
Waitematā District Police Commissioner Andrew Coster confirmed one officer had died and said it was "absolutely devastating" news, as he delivered an update at a press conference. "This is a shocking situation, this is the worst news police and their families can receive," he added.
The second officer remains in a serious condition, with the pair not carrying firearms during the stop at around 10.30am local time in Raynella Drive, the commissioner continued.
