Police were called to an Ikea store as hundreds of click and collect shoppers swarmed the chain's shops and waited up to "six hours" to pick up their orders.
Witnesses described a scene of "chaos" at the non-essential retailer in Ashton, Greater Manchester, where there were huge queues of customers and surrounding roads were gridlocked on Sunday despite the lockdown.
One witness claimed some angry shoppers were verbally abusive towards staff and police briefly attended the scene, the Manchester Evening News reported.
There were similar queues at Ikeas in Croydon, south London, where some customers weren't social distancing as they huddled near a collection point, as well as Gateshead in Tyne and Wear, and Reading in Berkshire.
