Petrol-head Paul Marrington has spent more than £85,000 on his famous motors. He’s got lookalikes of screen legends including the A-Team van and the Dukes of Hazzard’s General Lee.Paul, 42, began his collection with a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle – just like the one in children’s film Herbie. The drinks salesman also has a black seven-seater GMC Vandura van as in The A-Team, and even the General Lee – an orange 1969 Dodge Charger.Paul said: “I’m living my boyhood dream.“These are the type of cars I would watch on TV and I would play with miniature versions as a kid.”And he says people constantly compliment him as the cars make them feel nostalgic.Paul went on: “Around five years ago I bought a Volkswagen Bug to do up like Herbie, but this was just something to do in my spare time. “When lockdown first hit, Paramount were showing a double bill of Knight Rider and The A-Team and I immediately started looking at prices for the A-Team van.
It just took off from there. “I found one on a Facebook group – I spent £38,000 on it and it’s a pretty accurate replica. General Lee gets the most compliments.”Paul, from Wirral, Merseyside, takes his fleet to shows and hires them out for weddings and events.
He added: “I’ve even had people use the cars for funerals. It doesn’t end here though, there’s loads more I want to do. “I would love to get a Scooby Doo Van for a bit of fun.” To stay up to date with all the latest news, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters here. .
