100 cockroaches. Homeowners could bag themselves £1,600 ($2,000) if they let researchers release up to a hundred of the creepy crawlies into their homes in the hopes of testing out a new pest control repellent.

A US company is hoping to trial its potential pest control in a homely environment, offering inhabitants a hefty sum of cash to have their homes invaded by the insects. The Pest Informer, a North Carolina-based Pest control company, are making the offer in the hopes of testing out their new treatment.Five to seven households are set to be selected and will form the base of a trial run that will see homes flooded with bugs in an attempt to test out "a specific pest control technique".The study also hopes to figure out just how effective the new treatment will be, with those signing up to the test allowing the company to release the bugs. Those that apply and accept the study give the company every right to "release ~100 American cockroaches into your home, and give us permission to film, and test out a specific cockroach treatment."Should any of the critters be left once the test has concluded, the company has offered to remove the infestation with "traditional cockroach treatment options at no cost."For potential project participants, homeowners must have their own home or have written approval for the test to take place and must also be located in the Continental United States.Other requirements include being aged 21 or over and not attempting to use or try additional cockroach treatments during the duration of the study. The Pest Informer says the study will take a total of 30 days and the New York Post reports that the treatments used are family and pet safe.
