FX is touting record performance for the premiere of its new docuseries Dear Mama.

Tupac Shakur was murdered, meaning he's been gone longer than the 25-year-old was alive. Throughout his life, the rapper's ambitions warred with his personal struggles as his portrayal in the media fought to outshine his rising star onscreen. Since his death, many have tried to encapsulate how his legendary music career and passion for acting influenced hip-hop long after he died.

Hulu — two of Tupac Shakur’s cousins recount, in chilling detail, how they first heard the titular classic.They were hanging in an Atlanta hotel room with the late rap icon on Halloween 1993, just after Shakur shot two white off-duty cops. Sophia Scorziello editor Nneka Garland, an Emmy-winning producer on “General Hospital,” died Monday in Burbank. She was 49.  She had suffered a heart attack at her home in Sherman Oaks, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Garland joined the ABC soap opera in 2001 as an executive assistant and spent the last 22 years working on the show. In 2021, she became a producer of “General Hospital” and shared a Daytime Emmy win for outstanding drama series. That same year, show writers named recurring fictional character Nneka (Arlondriah Lenyéa) after Garland. 

Bobby Caldwell, the singer-songwriter who scored a top 10 hit with “What You Won’t Do for Love” and wrote “The Next Time I Fall,” a No. 1 hit for Amy Grant and Peter Cetera, died today at his home in New York City after a long illness. He was 71.

The FX docuseries Dear Mama is set to premiere on April 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT and will stream the following day via Hulu. The premiere will include the first two episodes of the 5-part series, with one new episode each subsequent week.

Jada Pinkett Smith is releasing a “no holds barred” memoir, which will delve into her upbringing, her marriage and her experience of depression. The publisher Dey Street, an imprint of HarperCollins, announced the news on Thursday 6 October. It stated that, in the book, Pinkett Smith will reflect on “lessons learned in the course of a difficult but riveting journey – a rollercoaster ride from the depths of suicidal depression to the heights of personal rediscovery and the celebration of authentic feminine power”.

Jada Pinkett Smith plans to reveal all in her new memoir. The actress and wife of Will Smith announced she will publish her book in 2023, according to People.  Although the memoir is still untitled, the "Red Table Talk" host will cover her "rise to stardom" alongside friend Tupac Shakur, her "unconventional upbringing" and "falling in love" with her husband.  Smith opens up about "chronicles lessons learned in the course of a difficult but riveting journey – a rollercoaster ride from the depths of suicidal depression to the heights of personal discovery…" according to a press release via the media outlet.

This is an epic exploration of the life of hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur and his late mom, Afeni Shakur, the former Black Panthers member. It is Hughes’ first trip back to TIFF since he and brother Albert came to unveil their Johnny Depp pic From Hell, only to see that title become all too apt when, on their media day 21 years ago, everything got canceled when two hijacked planes crashed into and took down the Twin Towers. At the behest of the estate of the Shakur family, Hughes, who aside from films like The Book of Eli directed the acclaimed docuseries The Defiant Ones on Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, spent years diving deep into the mythology of Tupac to answer why his art endures so long after he was shot dead at age 25. Much as he would have preferred to avoid it, Hughes had to confront his own provocative history with Tupac. After the Hughes Brothers hired Tupac for a supporting role in Menace II Society, they fired Shakur over disagreements about the part he wanted to play. Later, the hip-hop artist and his pals crossed paths with Hughes and his co-director Albert, and beat them badly enough that it led to a criminal conviction on Shakur for assault and battery., Here, Hughes discusses all, including the spiritual connection between Tupac and Marvin Gaye, whose life Allen Hughes takes on next in a narrative film for Warner Bros and Motown Records.

Dear Mama, will highlight the relationship between the iconic musician 2pac and his mother, Afeni Shakur.In celebration of Mother’s Day, the popular network released the teaser trailer for the five-part docuseries directed by Allen Hughes. Dear Mama – named after the late rapper’s song of the same name – will examine both Afeni and Tupac’s vision of the world they lived in, as well as their respective journeys to better themselves and people around them.“It was my responsibility to teach Tupac how to survive his reality,” Afeni said in a recorded quote during the docuseries’ montage.  “So, if Tupac do something wrong – take your little sorry self in that corner, get the New York Times – and let’s have a debate about it.
