Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson has slammed British soaps for 'ticking boxes'. The actor, who portrayed imprisoned Jim McDonald, appeared on GB News alongside former fellow Weatherfield resident Sherrie Hewson and Brookside's Tina Malone.Charlie, 62, was quizzed by broadcast Dan Wootton on "wokeness" and admitted current soaps don't "reflect reality".The actor argued that viewers would "start to switch off" from watching soaps as bosses choose to tick boxes.He admitted to feeling a sense of despair over the constant stream of "new things that you can and can't do".It came as Dan chatted to Charlie and fellow soap stars in the wake of June Brown's death.Charlie raised that many viewers are being extremely tight-lipped about what they want to watch and are afraid of calling soap bosses out.He told GMB's Dan: "We're great at being a silent majority in this b****y country over a great deal of things and I try not to be, to my detriment."There's always new things that you can and can't do and I despair and that goes across society in my humble opinion." He raged: "I hope to god that Corrie and EastEnders or whatever, Emmerdale Farm are around in 10 years but I think people start to switch off because boxes are being ticked with such heavy black ink and I mean that across the whole television industry."There is a silent majority out there who just want to say, excuse my French, they want to say, 'B******s to that, I want to watch what I want to watch'." During his stint on Coronation Street back in the late 90s, Charlie's character became temporarily wheelchair-bound following an altercation with son Steve in 1998.

Loose Women panellist Sherrie Hewson has spoken out about her marriage to her ex-husband Ken Boyd, revealing that she should have left her partner "a long time" before they separated in 2001 and later divorced in 2011.Speaking on The Sun's Fabulous Magazine's podcast, Things I Told My Daughter, the former Coronation Street star, 71, claimed that she stayed with her partner as she didn't want to hurt their daughter.Sherrie was married to husband Ken for nearly 30 years before they decided to go their separate ways.Together they share daughter Keeley, who they had eight years into their marriage.In the podcast, the Benidorm actress claimed that she stayed with her husband Ken for 28 years as she didn't want to upset her daughter.Addressing the split, Sherrie said: "I’ve never allowed [Keeley] to have any pain or any upset or any hurt.“It was just so awful because it happened in a really bad way."The star went on to heartbreakingly tell that she had to move out of her beloved family home.Sherrie said: "Also we lived in a beautiful art-deco house in Esher in Surrey and had to leave there."She claimed that following the split she sent her ex-beau to Spain, adding that the break-up should've happened before it did.Sherrie added: "I am very practical so all I needed to do was know that I could get him gone, get rid of him."I bought an apartment in Spain, so I said, ‘You go there’."He went, we stayed here and then we moved," she explained.She added: "[The split] should have happened a long time before it happened."At the end of last year, the former Loose Women star looked back at her time on the show.The star claimed the panellists used to have “a lot of freedom” back when she was part of the lineup between 2003 and 2017, while
