‘Barbarella’: Sydney Sweeney leads remake of Jane Fonda’s cult classic film
Deadline confirmed on Tuesday.The sci-fi flick was based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book series and starred Fonda, now 84, as a glamorous futuristic space astronaut as she battles evil across the cosmos.Roger Vadim directed the picture over 50 years ago and while the movie originally wasn’t a box office hit, it became a cult classic over the years.The film earned much praise in the United Kingdom, and it became the year’s second-highest-grossing film. A director, writer and a full cast list have yet to be announced. John Phillip Law, Anita Pallenberg, Milo O’Shea, Marcel Marceau and Claude Dauphin also starred alongside Fonda in “Barbarella.”The “White Lotus” star is currently has several projects under her belt, including a supportive role in the “Spider-Man” spinoff, “Madame Web.”Sweeney, who just launched a production company of her own, also recently finished shooting the movie “National Anthem” with singer Halsey.The Washington-born actress caused a stir earlier this year when she claimed “they don’t pay actors like they used to” — despite her Emmy nomination, starring roles in upcoming movies and her first $3 million mansion.However, in August, she spoke to IndieWire at length about her growing career and that she feels that she has an array of options when picking her roles.

Jane Fonda, 84, has reflected upon her love life and how meeting each of her three former husbands taught her something. The Grace and Frankie actress admitted that not everyone who has been part of her love life has been able to take her down “new paths”, and boyfriends she had between her marriages left her "bored".Jane revealed: “All of my three husbands definitely took me down paths that I probably would not have gone down had I not married them.“And then, in between the marriages, I have had boyfriends that didn't take me down any new paths, that really had nothing to teach me, and I got bored pretty fast.”“I feel like I needed to always be learning and growing and expanding, and my husbands have all helped me do that,” the Hollywood star told The Daily Telegraph.Jane first tied the knot with French screenwriter Roger Vadim in 1965, with whom she stayed married until 1973.She then went on to marry left-wing activist and politician Tom Hayden from 1973 to 1990.Her last husband was media magnate Ted Turner, with their marriage spanning from 1991 until 2001.Jane has previously admitted to having a “favourite husband”, and didn't hold back in spilling his name.Jane made the confession to her Grace and Frankie co-star, and friend of 50 years, Lily Tomlin.It was part of an interview for Vanity Fair's YouTube channel, which featured the pair quizzing each other to test the strength of their friendship.During their conversation, Lily instantly knew who Jane was referring to and asked: “Is it Ted?”In a separate interview earlier this year, Jane explained her absence from the screen before her return to the limelight in 2005 for the movie Monster in Law, in which she starred opposite Jennifer Lopez.She said: “You see, 15
