As the official rollout of “Paramount+ with Showtime approaches, the Paramount Global platform unveiled a unified Paramount Streaming Data & Marketing Group led by Domenic DiMeglio, EVP and chief marketing officer, Paramount Streaming.

Michael Engleman, Chief Marketing Officer for Paramount+ Domestic and Paramount+ with Showtime, will be leaving Paramount Global later this month. He just announced his departure in an internal memo. (You can read it below.)

Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer Just over a year after his promotion, Paramount+ Domestic and Showtime chief marketing officer Michael Engleman has decided to exit the company. Sources close to the situation tell Variety that Engleman’s choice was made amid consolidation at Paramount, which recently agreed to merge with Skydance, and as teams across the company, including marketing departments, are looking to eliminate redundancies. It is understood that Engleman — who reports to Domenic DiMeglio, the executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Paramount Streaming — will not be replaced, with his current responsibilities instead passing on to other executives within the company, though no specifics regarding those transitions are currently available.

Firstly, Michael Engelman has been named chief marketing officer of Paramount+ Domestic and Showtime. In that role, he will oversee consumer marketing, strategy, partnerships, lifecycle marketing, customer care, and social and creative execution for all U.S. campaigns. He will be based in Los Angeles. Secondly, Puja Vohra has been named executive vice president of consumer marketing for Paramount+ and Showtime. She will oversee brand, media, and program marketing for Paramount+ and Showtime and will be based in New York.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Paramount+ has sealed a multi-year deal with New York’s Bryant Park to take over its Monday evening summer movie series, the streamer announced on Wednesday. Dubbed “Paramount+ Movie Nights at Bryant Park,” the deal is timed to the 30th anniversary of Bryant Park’s “Movie Nights” franchise. This year’s “Paramount+ Movie Nights at Bryant Park” will run from June 12 to August 14. The event is also paired with the pop-up Hester Street Fair, which features a rotating line-up of artisanal vendors from the five boroughs on the park’s Fountain Terrace each Monday. “Movie Nights is one of Bryant Park’s most popular series and with the support of Paramount+, we can continue to provide free high quality outdoor movie screenings for New Yorkers and visitors for many more years to come,” said Bryant Park Corp. president Dan Biederman in a statement.

Variety’s Entertainment Marketing Summit in Los Angeles, marketing pros came together to discuss their challenges, best practices and triumphs. Here are the highlights from the event, held Wednesday at 1 Hotel West Hollywood. Competition for Attention Is Fierce In the summit’s opening session, moderated by Variety co-editor-in chief Cynthia Littleton, panelists spoke about dealing with trying to win viewers amid the flood of content across platforms. “We’re competing with everything… This is no longer a linear-timeslot thing,” said Margaret Walker, SVP, NBC brand strategy and audience growth. Domenic DiMeglio, chief marketing officer of Paramount Streaming, said that staying close with fans on social can help inform content-development strategy. For example, he cited “Teen Wolf,” which ended its run on MTV in 2017 but “had a really engaged, rabid social fanbase.” That led the company to develop a “Teen Wolf” movie for Paramount+ that premiered in January.

Kaplan joins the company as global senior VP, head of consumer marketing for Pluto TV. She most recently was operating partner at Peter Chernin’s investment firm the Chernin Group. Prior to that, Kaplan served as the first chief marketing officer for Headspace, a mindfulness and meditation app. She previously was at Hulu for three and a half years, most recently as VP of growth marketing where she led marketing across the full subscriber lifecycle, including media, acquisition, lifecycle, partner and product marketing.

Paramount+ has partnered with Popsugar to take over Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood for the promotion, timed to the upcoming launch of the new series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.” It’s unclear whether Danny Zuko’s preferred order (a double Polar Burger with everything and a cherry soda with chocolate ice cream) will be available, but the two-day interactive event will include 1950s-era music and decor, as well as “twists on familiar diner fare” and photo moments. “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” merchandise will also be given away and customized on site.
