Jerry Lee Lewis has died, aged 87, it was confirmed on Friday.In a statement, his publicist Zach Farnum said: “Lewis, perhaps the last true, great icon of the birth of rock n roll, whose marriage of blues, gospel, country, honky tonk and raw, pounding stage performances so threatened a young Elvis Presley that it made him cry, has died”.“He was there at the beginning, with Elvis, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, and the rest, and watched them fade away one by one till it was him alone to bear witness, and sing of the birth of rock n roll”, he went on.The musician’s death came just days after TMZ falsely reported that Lewis had died – his management saying at the time that the website had fallen for a hoax, telling reporters: “He’s alive. TMZ reported erroneously off of a bullshit anonymous tip”.

The rock n roll pioneer known as “The Killer” was best known for singing the famous track Great Balls of Fire.The star’s publicist has now confirmed the news of the singer’s death. Publicist Zach Farnum said: "Lewis, perhaps the last true, great icon of the birth of rock 'n' roll, whose marriage of blues, gospel, country, honky-tonk and raw, pounding stage performances so threatened a young Elvis Presley that it made him cry, has died."He was there at the beginning, with Elvis, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, and the rest, and watched them fade away one by one till it was him alone to bear witness, and sing of the birth of rock 'n' roll."Jerry’s seventh wife Judith was by his side when he died at his home in Mississippi.The star’s other hits include Shakin’ and High School Confidential.He is survived by his wife, Judith Coghlan Lewis, his children Jerry Lee Lewis III, Ronnie Lewis, Phoebe Lewis and Lori Lancaster, sister Linda Gail Lewis, cousin Jimmy Swaggart and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jerry was one of the first musicians inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 1986. He was also the subject of the 1989 film Great Balls of Fire, where Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid portrayed him.  On Wednesday, US publication TMZ falsely reported that the musician had died at his home in Memphis, Tennessee.  The outlet stated it regretted its error and said: “Today we were told by someone claiming to be Lewis' rep that he had passed.That turned out not to be the case.”The proper representative of Mr Lewis confirmed to Page Six that the singer was alive at that time. They said: “TMZ reported erroneously off of a bulls**t anonymous tip.” The Sun also reported

Jimi Hendrix lyric sheet that was torn in half and given to two fans at a gig 55 years ago has finally been pieced back together.On February 20, 1967, Hendrix played a gig at the Bath Pavilion in the evening in place of Chuck Berry, who had to cancel his performance.As the Guardian report, before the show, two unnamed women, aged 15 and 16, waited at the stage door to get an autograph from Hendrix. With no blank paper to hand, the legendary guitarist then tore out a page from a notebook before tearing it in half and signing each half for both fans.The two women, who wish to remain anonymous, then discovered that lyrics for a song then dubbed “51st Wedding Anniversary” – the eventual track, ’51st Anniversary’, was released weeks after the concert as a ‘Purple Haze’ B-side – were inscribed on the back of their signed pieces of paper.

Ian McDonald was a British multi-instrumentalist who co-founded King Crimson and Foreigner.After serving in the British Army as a bandsman, McDonald helped form the classic prog-rock band King Crimson. He played saxophone, flute, keyboards, and other instruments on their influential first album, 1969’s “In the Court of the Crimson King,” before leaving the band. He played with fellow King Crimson alum Michael Giles for a time, then briefly rejoined King Crimson before co-founding Foreigner in 1976.

The Fratellis frontman Jon Lawler has recalled the time he “destroyed” the stage during a Royal ball in Monaco after demanding to be paid in casino chips.The musician was speaking to the Daily Record about the band filming a new performance for The Late Late Show With James Corden and The Kelly Clarkson Show in promotion of their upcoming new album, ‘Half Drunk Under A Full Moon’ (out April 2).During the chat, Lawler looked back on playing a show with “Chuck Berry and the Fratellis on the bill” at Princess Caroline’s annual Rose Ball in 2009.
