Nurses in Dumfries and Galloway will be asked to consider strike action in a row over pay.The Royal College of Nursing will open an indicative ballot next week and ask staff across Scotland what form of action they would be prepared to take on the issue.The RCN told the Standard it was a difficult decision but the current staffing crisis facing the NHS is causing “unacceptable risks” to patients and staff.Julie Lamberth, chairperson of RCN Scotland board, said: “It’s a last resort and extremely difficult decision for nursing staff even to consider industrial action.“But the current staffing challenges are causing unacceptable risks to patients and staff.
