Newcastle United’s prospective new owners will trigger a revolution at the club and turn them into top four challengers. Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley is selling up to a consortium led by financier Amanda Staveley, with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund taking a 80 per cent stake, and the mega-rich Reuben brothers taking a piece.

Former United midfielder Jermaine Jenas, who starred for the club in the Champions League, says the Saudis will want to “make a splash” and become part of the elite again.
