The baby boy, believed to be a newborn, was declared dead after being rescued from a waterway in Rough Wood Country Park in Walsall, on Thursday afternoon.
West Midlands Police said a passerby spotted the infant at around 1pm. Officers are now appealing for witnesses as they investigate the tragic circumstances leading to the baby's death.
