Seminal racial inequality documentary 13th has been made free to watch online by Netflix. The film by director Ava DuVernay has received renewed focus following the murder of George Floyd in the US and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests across the world The title itself refers to the 13th Amendment of the American Consitution.

This amendment states: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.".

The documentary examines the inaccurate mythology that has developed around black criminality, especially in the US, where there is a clear disproportionate number of African-Americans living their lives as prisoners.
