NASA has revealed plans to farm fresh food including tomatoes and leafy vegetables on manned missions to Mars. Dr Grace Douglas, lead scientist for the US space agency's Advanced Food Technology, said astronauts on the International Space Station have started experiments growing plants in space.She told the Houston We have a Podcast: "Those are very important as we try to understand how to grow plants and what the requirements are going to be for a long term space flight and to figure out what the challenges are."Right now I would say that it's been very exciting that they've been able to grow plants and that crews have been able to consume some of those."What's been grown so far has been leafy green products and I know there's plans to get.
