Myron Dewey was a documentary filmmaker who covered the protests at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, including directing “Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock.”Dewey was the founder of the production company Digital Smoke Signals.
He took acclaimed and widely viewed footage of the protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline, running near Standing Rock. Dewey was arrested for covering the events at Standing Rock, accused of stalking workers on the pipeline with a drone video recorded.
The charges were later dropped. Dewey co-directed the feature-length documentary “Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock,” a 2017 official selection at the Tribeca Film Festival.
