Mum contracts deadly disease inhaling quarry dust leaving her with 'life sentence'

A mum-of-two who contracted a deadly lung disease from dust inhaled from a nearby quarry has told how she has been left with a "life sentence".

Admin worker Joanna McNeill had no idea the quarry dust which coated her face and hair as she left her office each day for seven years was toxic.

The 34-year-old's lungs have been scarred by crystalline silica - a substance which campaigners fear could become the new asbestos in terms of long-term damage to workers.

Speaking to 9News, Joanna revealed how she wished someone had told that, even though she worked in administration, the dust from the nearby quarry could cause silicosis – the lung disease caused by inhaling crystalline silica. What is your view?
