Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorLong-running indie duo Beach House — who released the sprawling 18-song double album, ‘Once Twice Melody,’ just a few weeks ago — are making their film-scoring debut with Netflix’s “Along for the Ride,” which is described in the announcement as “a sweet summer film based on the popular YA book by New York Times bestselling author Sarah Dessen.” The film arrives on Netflix on Friday.Written and directed by Sofia Alvarez (who wrote the screenplay for both “To All the Boys I’ve Love Before” and its sequel), “Along for the Ride” tells the story of Auden (Emma Pasarow), who’s decided to spend her last summer before college in picturesque Colby Beach, according to the synopsis. While other teens party in the sun, loner Auden spends her time roaming the streets after everyone else is asleep.

Beach House have announced a full release of their Record Store Day exclusive EP ‘Become’.Initially released in a limited run as a Record Store Day exclusive on crystal clear vinyl on Saturday (April 22), the EP will now see a wider release on black vinyl, CD and CS platforms on May 19 via Sub Pop/Bella Union.The dream-pop duo, consisting of Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand, self-produced all tracks on the EP. The mixing was done by Alan Moulder, Trevor Spencer, and Caesar Edmunds with mastering done by Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound.“The ‘Become’ EP is a collection of 5 songs from the ‘Once Twice Melody’ sessions.

Once Twice Melody (★★★★☆) was released in four installments, with a chapter landing once per month. Their decision to slowly titrate the album’s release allowed it to reveal its strength in an almost teasing way, as the majesty of the whole became gradually more apparent as the second and third chapters dropped.

But with “Once Twice Melody,” they’ve defied those and many other odds, creating an album that is unmistakably them, and at first blush not that different from their previous work, but one that gradually unveils more and more detail, like intricate painting viewed from different perspectives.
