A woman and her partner have been charged with the murder of a toddler who died last year. Two-year-old Kyrell Matthews was found in cardiac arrest at a home in Thornton Heath, south London, on October 20 2019.
On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police said the little boy's mother, Phylesia Shirley, 23, of Bensham Manor Road, Thornton Heath, and Kemar Brown, 27, of Grange Park Road, Thornton Heath, have been charged with murder.
Shirley and Brown, who is not the boy's father, will appear virtually in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. They are also accused of causing or allowing the death of a child.
