Motorists have been left stunned after spotting a group enjoying a picnic on a fully kitted-out dining table in a lay-by.Drivers had to do a double take as they spotted the six people coming together for a lovely picnic in the great outdoors at a dining table that featured a lamp, candles and spacious seating arrangements. The six people spotted were tucking into their lunch on a lay-by off the side of a road in Bristol, with the bold group of picnickers unbothered by stunned passers by.

The group were sat at the side of the road with a dining set that looked as though it was ripped straight from their living room.A wicker picnic basket could be spotted between two chairs at the foot of the table, right next to the out-of-place floor lamp, table cloth and candle set.

One driver who spotted the group tucking into their unusual lunch at 2.40pm say amused drivers were honking their horns as they passed the group, who were said to have waved at bemused passers-by.Although ribbed for their fine dining outdoor venture, the smart group of six have avoided a Highway Code ruling that could charge drivers up to £5,000 for eating at the wheel.According to Rule 148 of the Highway Code, drivers must "avoid distractions when driving or riding such as...

trying to read maps, starting or adjusting any music or radio... eating and drinking". The elegant stop off for the road users avoids the "eating and drinking" stipulation, with the Highway Code saying motorists can be penalised for driving without due care, but the issue is not necessarily a black and white offence, The Sun reported.Any driving that demonstrates a lack of alertness to potential dangers on the road could fall under Rule 148 of the Highway Code.
