crocodile after dipping it into murky waters. The 49-year-old victim, identified only as Ilham, had been hired as a driver to take a family around Sinka Zoo in Singkawang, Indonesia, according to local reports.Ilham had to stop after one of the tyres on his vehicle went flat but after changing it and getting covered in grease, he decided he needed to wash off.Spotting a pond, Ilham vaulted a nearby fence and plunged his arm in, only for a huge crocodile to launch an attack. The beast clamped its jaws and teeth around his right arm, with witnesses saying that the arm was brutally severed above the elbow. His arm eventually snapped off entirely as he was flailing to escape the crocodile's grasp, which probably saved him from a much more gruesome fate.Once clamped onto their prey, crocodiles usually drag it beneath the water's surface and perform a death roll. The victims will drown during the death roll, but it also serves to break up a crocodile's prey into manageable chunks of meat for eating.Ilham was rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for his injuries.

Pictures now show him in a stable condition, smiling bravely despite not having most of his right arm.Police in Indonesia have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the attack. This is because eyewitnesses claimed there were no signs near the pond or fence indicating that a monster crocodile could be lurking in the water. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletter by clicking here.A similar incident happened in Malaysia on June 4 when Bohri Jali, 54, managed to cheat death by slapping a crocodile on the head.
