Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's "back-burner role" at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations wouldn't have made Netflix too happy, according to a royal expert.
The Sussexes flew back from California, US to Britain for the bumper bank holiday but were absent from several key events. Even when they were present, they were relegated to backseat roles.
According to Professor Cele Otnes, a royal author and marketing expert, Meghan and Harry were "essentially a non-story". The celebrations came amid reports Meghan and Harry are filming an "at-home" series for Netflix, with whom they signed a lucrative deal after quitting as working royals, reports the Express.
Professor Otnes, co-author of Royal Fever, told the Express: "Of course, it's hard to know whether the very back-burner role the Sussexes played was by design."In truth, I think they were essentially a non-story at the Jubilee, which was likely the Firm's goal, but unlikely the goal of Netflix."The Royal Family is likely treating most of their interactions with Harry and Meghan with caution if not suspicion."So long the Netflix contract requires lots of content about Brand Sussex, that's probably prudent on the Royal Family's part."The University of Illinois academic added that it will be "interesting" to see how the Royal Family's treatment of the Sussexes changes following the release of Harry's upcoming memoir, due to be out later this year.
