Manchester United are only prepared to sell Diogo Dalot to Roma if they can sign Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier in the January transfer window.
Roma are interested in Dalot but the Manchester Evening News understands they have been informed by United a deal is only possible if Trippier arrives from Atletico Madrid.
United were interested in signing Trippier, 31, in the summer to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and remain keen on the England international amid Wan-Bissaka's dismal form.
The United coaches settled on Trippier as a target amid dissatisfaction at Wan-Bissaka's attacking output and Bury-born Trippier made arrangements for his family to relocate to Manchester in the summer.
