The Etihad outfit have conceded 31 goals this campaign after losing Vincent Kompany in the summer, who they did not replace.
To add the matters, Aymeric Laporte has suffered from injury troubles - as has John Stones. It has left the usually-hapless Nicolas Otamendi as the main centre-back this campaign while Fernandinho has been asked to play the position too.
The Argentine defender is 32 while Fernandinho turns 35 next month. Stones' future is also up in the air, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2022 and Guardiola rumoured to be open to bids.
