After Sinead Desmond had received a decision in her favour in her case against her former employer, Virgin Media Television has now been granted permission to challenge the decision made by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).
Sinead had brought an equal pay case against the broadcaster after she had been looking for pay parity with her Ireland AM co-presenter Mark Cagney.
She resigned in 2017 following the salary row and Virgin Media argued that Mark Cagney wasn’t ‘an appropriate comparator’ as he was a contractor and not a member of staff like Sinead.
This means that unlike Sinead, Mark wasn’t eligible for any form of contribution to a pension scheme or private healthcare through the broadcaster.
