He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Loose Women cancelled as Boris Johnson's resignation takes over ITV schedule

Loose Women has been cancelled on Thursday following news of Boris Johnson's resignation. The Loose Women Twitter account confirmed the news ahead of the show which would be due to kick off from 12:30pm on Thursday afternoon. A statement was also released on their Instagram to confirm that there will be no episode going ahead today.

Loose Women isn't the first show to be pulled off air following the news, with ITV's Lorraine being cut 30 minutes short after it was revealed that Boris Johnson is expected to resign.

Lorraine was informed halfway through her show that she needed to wrap up as news of Boris' impending resignation broke. She was interviewing JLS member Aston Merrygold at the time, but instead political correspondent Nina Hassain was stood outside Downing Street to issue live coverage.

She explained to viewers that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to step down as Conservative Leader.Hassain said on air: "The Prime Minister will make a statement to the country today, he is expected to resign at lunch time today."He will remain Prime Minister until the autumn election after he woke with clarity of thought and decided to resign."The news comes after over 50 cabinet ministers resigned from office in just two days after both Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid handed in their letters of resignation earlier this week.
