Liverpool started their Premier League defence against newly-promoted Leeds United on Saturday evening, and after a wild 90 minutes came away from Anfield with a 4-3 victory thanks to a Mohamed Salah hat-trick.
The game did, however, highlight why some are concerned at the Reds’ lack of spending this summer. Jurgen Klopp named a characteristic starting XI with the club’s only new signing, Kostas Tsimikas, missing out on the match-day squad entirely.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara, while Georginio Wijnaldum’s future remains uncertain.
But they are also said to be looking to complete deals for younger prospects, while some former players have expressed their concerns about the summer
