But she never bloomed into a woman, she never got married, she never had children, and never chased her dreams. A talented gymnast, and keen cross-country runner who had run for Leigh Harriers, she was according to her best friend, "gorgeous".
A pupil at Bedford High in Leigh, she was popular, and academically bright. But that promise was snuffed out when she was just 14 years old.
