Leicester lockdown: Hairdresser 'devastated' after spending £10,000 to prepare salon for customers

A hairdressing boss who spent £10,000 preparing to reopen her three salons in Leicester has spoken of her devastation as the city is subjected to the UK's first local lockdown.

Katie Katon, managing director of George’s Hairdressing, is now unable to open her doors to customer on Saturday after the government ordered non-essential businesses in the city to close on Thursday to tackle a spike in coronavirus cases in Leicester.

So while hairdressers and pubs across England will reopen on Saturday, Katie's salons must stay shut. Katie told the Daily Mail the new lockdown means she has had to 'push back' clients who were booked in and things have been left 'in the air' with upset customers and staff who were expecting to start earning again.
