Between 2014 and 2020 (plus one in 2008), Sir Lewis won seven World Drivers’ Championships, tying with Michael Schumacher, and he holds the record for race wins.
Last year, in circumstances only slightly less controversial than the Pentagon Papers, Hamilton, currently with Mercedes, was beaten to the world title by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, denying him that outright record and prompting many to question whether, at 37, he’ll fancy continuing for much longer.Hamilton will race again this year, but last season suggested the latest shift in the Formula 1 sands may be underway.
