Formula 1 superstar Sir Lewis Hamilton has announced that he is in the process of legally changing his name. The 37 year old Stevenage born star's name change will include the surname of his beloved mother Carmen, who accompanied him to Windsor Castle in December as he received his knighthood.
Speaking at the 2022 Dubai Expo on Monday, the racing car driver explained: "I'm really proud of my family's name - Hamilton. "Actually, none of you might know that my mum's [sur]name is Larbalestier.
And I'm just about to put that in my name," the seven-time Formula One world champion added. Lewis continued: "I don't really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. " He added that he wanted his mother's last name to "continue on with the Hamilton name".
Lewis' mother Carmen split from his dad Anthony when he was two years old. Raised by his mother until the age of 12, Lewis moved in with his father and stepmother Linda.
