Because otherwise you just think “you don’t get it”. People are so kind and so lovely, but the relief that it was not their child…’ In the months after Iris’s death, her friends created a shrine for the teenager next to a tree on Barnes Common.
It became a focal point for the family. ‘It’s an ancient thing, this thing of congregating, creating these places to feel your grief and allow it to come out.
