John Lewis to close more stores with up to eight remaining branches at risk

Bosses at department store chain John Lewis are considering closing up to eight of its remaining branches, it is claimed. Older shops are said to be most at risk of shutting permanently.

It comes on top of eight store closures announced by the worker-owned group last July, leading to 1,300 job losses. The firm, which also owns supermarket chain Waitrose, is also in the process of cutting a further 1,500 head office jobs.

According to the Sunday Times, the final number of closures is yet to be decided and will depend on negotiations with landlords.
