Little Mix star has said she “never intended to offend anyone” after she faced accusations of ‘blackfishing’ following the release of her music video for her new solo single. ‘Blackfishing’ refers to when non-black people may alter their appearance or take on a characteristic to try to appear black for profit, commerical gain or to raise their profile.
Ms Nelson has been accused of ‘blackfishing’ following the release of the video in which her skin appeared to be darker and some claimed she was using a ‘blaccent’ to make herself sound as though she had black ancestry.
In an Instagram Live video, she denied using fake tan and said she had been to Antigua in the weeks before the video shoot which explained her darker skin tone.
