The lengthy attack by 60-year-old Parks was described by the judge as a "gratuitous degradation" of his victim.He already had a previous conviction for inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent on the same partner, as well as convictions for beating up a colleague with a spanner and attacking a taxi driver.
Cardiff Crown Court heard that Parkes and his long-term partner were at home when he confronted her about a Facebook message that had popped up on her phone.
Parkes reportedly didn't see what the message contained but saw that it was from a male. He was told by his partner that it was just a message from a colleague, but he accused her of lying and became increasingly angry.
